As the summer season warms up for those down under, Australians begin moving outdoors to welcome the new weather. The city of Melbourne is offering a number of different outdoor movie options, including on screening films on fake grass and watching films on bean-bag and deck chairs.
According to The Age, an Australian online publication, anyone looking to view a film outdoors will have a number of choices. The Rooftop Cinema sets up an outdoor movie screen on the roof of a bar, complete with synthetic grass and adirondack chairs. The Cinema – which is for adults only – also has food and drink options to complete the entertainment. The Rooftop Cinema opens from November to March every year, and is known for the lights of the city surrounding the movie screen.
Another option is the Moonlight Cinema, which screens films for families in the Royal Botanic Gardens. What the Moonlight Cinema offers that other outdoor movie screen viewings often do not is not only special tickets for better seats, but the option to rent a bean bag chair to sit on while viewing the films.
Other options include each viewer’s own pair of headphones, deck chairs and alcohol served after certain times. One theater in particular hosts outdoor movies behind the facility – and if it is raining, allows viewers to go inside, proving that all film complexes can use the advantages of outdoor movie screens with conventional theaters.
Regardless, while some features like synthetic grass are particularly impressive, there are others that any event with an outdoor movie screen can benefit from, such as serving food and drinks, screening shows in unexpected areas and selling better seat options as well as good views.
